GWE had its origins in 1996 as a local consulting company in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Under direction of its founder, Vincent Ferraro, the company has grown to a staff of over 15 experienced engineers and technologists, supported with company-owned state-of-the-art equipment, model fabrication tools, physical wind tunnels, and computer simulation software. Through our reputation for reliability and excellence, we have expanded our services to major cities across North America.
GWE provides a full range of services in wind and snow engineering, thermal analysis, icing of structures, air pollution studies, vibration studies, as well as environmental noise and acoustics. We have amassed a broad range of experience from small direct-to-client projects to large and multifaceted developments as part of international design teams.

M.Eng., P.Eng., Principal
Vincent Ferraro is the founder and managing principal of Gradient Wind Engineering (GWE) Inc. He is a structural engineer with advanced training and over 30 years of experience in wind engineering as it relates to structures and people. He has acted in a senior technical role for a wide range of projects involving tall buildings, stadiums, large roofs, long span bridges and fabric structures.
He is also experienced in the fields of environmental noise, indoor acoustics and pollution control. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario. He also participates on standing CSA committees, where he helps develop standards for current issues within his areas of expertise. Vincent obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He obtained his Master’s degree in wind engineering from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
Un Yong Jeong
PhD, P.Eng., Senior Associate
Un Yong Jeong received both his Master’s degree and his PhD from Seoul National University. He was awarded the Outstanding Researcher Prize from the Korean Society of Civil Engineers in 2004 for his research in wind engineering, bridge aerodynamics, and wind-structure interaction analysis using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
After seven years of active research in the structural design of bridges and bridge aerodynamics as chief researcher at the Highway Research Centre, South Korea, he moved to the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel laboratory at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario for a two-year post-doctoral research position. Following this assignment, he continued on as a full-time employee of the lab where he developed computer programs for wind-related analyses of long-span bridges and tall buildings.
He also co-authored many peer-reviewed papers for international conferences and managed numerous commercial wind tunnel testing projects for buildings and bridges. Un Yong joined GWE in June 2011 and was promoted to Senior Associate in 2012. He is currently responsible for technical matters related to wind tunnel measurement standards, analysis of surface pressures on structures, wind-induced vibrations of tall and slender structures, improving wind load and building motion analysis procedures, and designing and testing dampers, including tuned liquid sloshing dampers and tuned liquid column dampers for high-rise buildings.

Josh is a Licenced professional engineer and has a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Carleton University. As a department head of the Air and Noise section at GWE, he has five years of experience in the environmental engineering field on a wide variety of project types including environmental noise, air quality, Environmental Compliance Approvals (air and noise), Environmental Assessments, and building acoustics.
